Trip to the bookstore

I took the kids to Indigo yesterday and I have to say that I had so much fun. We bought a lot. Well, a lot for me in one trip seeing as I rarely buy books and try to use the library as much as possible. Elijah had a gift card from his early birthday party, plus both boys had a reward book coming to them from their sticker charts, plus I was replacing a few of Olivia's books that were ruined in the flood, and then I found a Pulitzer prize finalist book on sale for me. Does anyone else love buying books as much as me? Probably, but I just couldn't get over the joy I felt at the bookstore yesterday. Yep, my brother had it right when we were kids, I'm such a bookworm geek (and proud of it!)

Mine!

Olivia's new favorite word is 'mine!' very emphatically. On Saturday we were out for dinner (thank you Dad!). The boy's meals came with 3 mini cones for desert. Of course Olivia wanted one and was gesturing and looking until finally Jeremy caved and gave one of his to her. As she was eating, I saw that the ice cream was going to drop from her cone. As any quick thinking Mom would, I reached out and caught it, and then put it back into her cone, stuffing it down a bit. Well, you have never seen a more hurt, upset little girl. She burst into tears, saying "Mine!" over and over again. No matter how much I said "it's in the cone Olivia" she would not let it go. She thought Mommy stole her ice cream. Poor precious dear.

Sending Kisses

Jeremy's new thing is really cute. When he's going somewhere without me, he asks me to send him a kiss there and he'll get it when he gets there. He always makes sure to tell me that he got it when he gets home.

Elijah the reader

I have to admit that I am loving Elijah's reading skills and love of reading right now. The other night I caught him after bedtime still awake and reading, using what sunlight was left in the day peeking around his curtain for light. The mom part of me had to tell him to go to sleep. The reader part of me was doing a little happy dance in the hall after I left his room. That was exactly what I would have done at his age. He's also started bringing books into the washroom with him, reading in there. Yesterday was a dream come true and beautiful memory for me. The two of us snuggling up on the couch, both engrossed in our novels. *sigh*

Friendship is the way to go

I have a friend who comes from Pakistan. She moved to Canada about a year and a half ago. She is Muslim, but not the extreme wearing a burqua sort. She doesn't cover her hair and I don't think she eats Halal. What has been very interesting (for me) is that she has asked me about different Christian celebrations, their meanings and the symbols that accompany them. It first happened when she was over for tea around Christmas time. She has never been in a home where there was a Christmas tree before. It was all new to her. This morning she asked about the symbolism behind the eggs with Easter. She didn't know anything about the Easter story. So I told it to her. She was really interested. What's great and a good point to remember for me is that I have never thought to openly evangelize to her. This all has just happened as our friendship has unfolded. She obviously feels comfortable enough with me to ask. I didn't have witnessing in mind when we became friends, she is just someone I like and whose company I enjoy. This part is an unexpected bonus.

I found this list online and wondered how many of these movies I'd seen - 35 out of 100. I'll admit there are a few I've never heard of and a few I don't have any intention of seeing - but a great list in case I'm ever in the mood for a well made movie (I've put a * beside the ones I've seen)
